How to Find It

To locate RCW 104, first identify the constellation Centaurus. Look for the bright stars Alpha and Beta Centauri, which serve as reference points. Once you locate Centaurus, scan the area NE of Alpha Centauri using a wide-field telescope or binoculars around the coordinates RA 14h 23m, Dec -60° 15'.

Observing Tip

Astrophotographers should use a telescope with a wide field of view to capture the full structure of RCW 104. Employ long-exposure techniques to bring out the details of the fabric of gas and stars within the nebula. It's ideal to use narrowband filters, such as H-alpha or OIII, to enhance contrast against the sky background.
